Discovering The Magic Within.
Brightness in the face, splendor in the eyes, a determined look, a noble gaze, pleasant voice, open-hearted charity, unwavering goodness: these are signs of a progressing will to attain the vision of God. —SSSB
At the age of nineteen I discovered a unique quality that surprised me. I realized that for some strange reason, adults found great comfort in sharing their private, personal and confidential business with me. I was able to guide them regarding whatever situation they
presented, whether it was emotional or psychological. They shared issues with me regarding their personal self, their family and other relationships, as well as their business.
As far back in time as I can remember, I have been able to mentally tap a source I know resides in some dimension other than ours. This allowed me to tune into that dimension and find their cosmic vibration frequency (CVF), thus garnering information relating to a particular individual and guiding them according to the information I was receiving.
I took this type of inspiration for granted and continued helping others, without fear or favor, whoever approached me with their personal problems. It gave me a great sense of belonging, unity and humility in knowing I was being used as
a vessel to assist my fellow beings.
In general, I have always recognized and respected the sanctity of life in the knowledge that this creative intelligent energy we term God permeates everything and every living being in the universe. The fact that I was allowed the privilege to draw from this source of energy gave me great satisfaction, gratified that I was being of service to my fellow beings. It is said that service to mankind is the highest service to God.
This experience, of people finding me approachable, was probably borne out of the fact that as a child, I wanted to become a priest in order to be of service to this God I was taught about in Christianity. As I reflected on the past during the composition of this chapter, it occurred to me that as
I had come into this world with memories of past lives, with knowledge of another dimension of being, it was a natural consequence for me to believe in the existence and reality of a superior creative force we collectively term God.
The distressed, the poverty stricken and those who suffer have no one to serve them. Go to such people and be their friend, their kith and kin and their closest well-wishers. Give them God in the form of food. Give them God in the form of clothes. Give God in the form of peace to those who are afflicted by anxiety. Give God in the form of medicine to those who are suffering from ill health. Give God in whatever form that assuages fear, pain and sorrow. It is only after this is done that spirituality can soak into the heart. If you act contrariwise, instead of spiritual feelings, you will be promoting atheism. You have no reason to feel proud when you are able to help another, for your skill or wealth or strength or courage or official position that gave you the chance
to serve was the gift of God, whether you recognize it or not. You are only offering this God’s gift to another God’s gift, namely the poor, the illiterate, the weak, the diseased, the grieving, the broken-hearted, who seek your help. Through service rendered without any desire to placate one’s ego, with only the well-being of others in view, it is possible to cleanse the consciousness and have the atma (true inner self that is divine) revealed.
—SSSB
In retrospect I realize that I found this gift overwhelming because it interfered in my personal time, which I wanted to use for my own personal needs. But the empathy and compassion I experienced with all these individuals over the years gave me the steadfastness to put their needs before mine.
As time passed, these experiences in service to others became a fascinating tool that cemented and hardened my resolve to gain the knowledge to enable me to understand, in a logical manner, the nature of this source. This has been a mission that has provided a number of activities that have guided me on my journey in fathoming the quest of life and death. It was evident to me that there were no barriers with the people who approached me; they included people of all ages, races, colors, castes, creeds and gender.
Having been raised on a farm as a child, I was always fascinated with the activities of bees and ants. They had the amazing ability to function in support of each other and seemed to share their foraging amongst themselves for the benefit of all. Whether it was collecting
food particles or nectar from the pollen of flowers, they moved with a harmony and symmetry that epitomized, to me, the nature of the way things should be with us human beings.
That observation dovetails with principle that appears to have been adopted by my clients from around the world. Each one told the other of the benefit he or she received. I must admit that this grapevine was not the most conducive thing for me when I had my business, because I spent a couple hours daily communicating with clients who called from the various corners of the world at the most inconvenient time. I am thankful that I now do this full time. As a further service to others, I built a website years ago to share with seekers information that can assist anyone in their darkest moments.
I guess one can imagine the frustrations I have been subjected to during my short lifespan in observing people who are egotistical, selfish, self-centered, envious, greedy and self-righteous. I find this type of disharmony extremely destructive and parasitic in behavior, because it goes against the grain of man’s inner nature and harmony. The consoling but sad factor is that I have been able to observe such individuals create their own karmic debt traumas.
This karmic retribution reinforces the knowledge that Newton’s Law of Cause and Effect, besides being a natural law, is certainly a cosmic law as well – for every action there is an opposite and equal reaction. It makes me wonder if Jesus was a Jewish rabbi or, rather, a philosopher or scientist. Maybe, in fact, he was....
